Sky News has expanded its partnership with Arc XP, the media platform built inside The Washington Post, to run the technology behind a new Sky News app and website targeted for launch by the end of 2027.
According to the announcement on November 2, Arc XP will provide its platform, backed by AWS, including tools for mobile apps, video and personalisation. The deal builds on Ask Sky News, an AI-powered conversational search tool the two already run. Sky News says video views on its app more than doubled year on year and that it has generated nearly 4.5 billion social video views in 2026 to date. The new products are meant to strengthen direct audience relationships and support premium and paid-for products.
“More people now find news through AI summaries and search results instead of going to the newsroom that did the reporting,” said Matt Monahan, President of Arc XP. Sky News Executive Chairman David Rhodes said the partnership “will deliver more personalisation and better commercial outcomes.”
Why it matters for marketers
Publishers are rebuilding their own apps to win back readers who now get answers from AI summaries. For advertisers that means more logged-in, first-party audiences on publisher-owned apps and fewer anonymous visits arriving from search. Reddit flagged the same referral pressure in its third-quarter results, and Google’s expansion of AI Mode ads shows where search ad inventory is moving.
One practical step
For 2027 publisher buys, ask which audiences on the new app will be logged in and addressable, and what video formats will be sold directly once it launches.
