CTV buyers have complained for years about not knowing which shows their programmatic ads actually ran against, a gap that has kept content-level accountability out of reach even as targeting and measurement elsewhere in streaming grew more precise. FreeWheel, the Comcast-owned ad platform, is closing part of that gap directly inside its buying tool rather than leaving it to a separate reporting layer.
On July 29, FreeWheel introduced Video Content Report, a feature built into its Buyer Cloud demand-side platform (formerly Beeswax) that shows advertisers the specific series their campaigns delivered against across participating publishers. The data comes from FreeWheel’s Streaming Hub ad server, matched post-impression to delivery, and is limited to publishers that opt in: A+E Global Media, Fuse Media, NBCUniversal, Paramount, Spectrum Reach, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Xumo signed on for launch. It’s available to all Buyer Cloud clients at no extra cost. “Video Content Report addresses a real gap in the market by giving us series-level visibility directly within Buyer Cloud,” said Mike Treon, head of CTV and video strategy at PMG, one of the agencies using it.
The timing matters for the CTV pitch overall. FreeWheel cites Advertiser Perceptions research showing more than half of CTV advertisers say they would shift spend toward publishers that provide show- or series-level transparency, meaning content-level reporting is becoming a competitive lever for publisher inventory, not just a compliance checkbox.
The original insight worth watching: by folding this into the DSP at no charge, FreeWheel is undercutting the standalone verification and measurement vendors that have built businesses around exactly this transparency gap, similar to how CTV’s broader trust problem has been pushing platforms to compete on proof, not just reach. Publishers still control what they disclose, so the transparency is real but partial, and rival platforms that don’t publish comparable data now face growing pressure to match it or risk losing budget to the ones that do.
