pubX announced on October 6 that it raised a $5 million Series A led by Chicago Ventures and acquired Compliant, a media quality and governance company. Compliant keeps its name and operates as a pubX company. Its CEO, Jamie Barnard, becomes pubX’s President, Global Demand Growth. The announcement does not state terms for the acquisition.
pubX began on the publisher side, helping publishers price and sell inventory, while Compliant has worked mainly for brands and agencies. pubX says the two vantage points shaped its plan for buyer agents and seller agents to transact directly on the AdCP protocol, with governance on both sides of every buy. Barnard described the fit this way: “Inside pubX, those media quality and governance signals sit in the decision itself, so an agent weighs them before it buys.”
The money goes to U.S. expansion, a demand-side business for brands and agencies, continued work on the buyer and seller agents, and integration of Compliant’s signals across the platform. pubX said it would run a live agent-to-agent media buy on October 7 during Advertising Week New York, a campaign for Reckitt’s Mucinex brand. Reckitt’s trading team was to approve the plan at key stages, with publishers including Paradium.AI, USA TODAY Co. and The Daily Beast reviewing and accepting the campaign as it happened.
Our read: the detail worth tracking is where the quality score sits. Compliant built its Data Integrity and CTV Quality Indexes for brands to judge inventory, and pubX plans to feed those signals into an agent’s decision before the purchase happens. Quality checks that run before a buy can block it; checks that run afterward can only report on it. The Reckitt demonstration is one campaign with approvals along the way, so repeat buys will show how much autonomy brands grant.
