Google added methods to the alpha Google Marketing Platform Admin API that create user groups, manage their members and grant organization roles to users or groups through code.
Google’s API changelog dates the change to Sept. 18, 2026 under the heading “New access management methods.” Three sets of methods were added to v1alpha. The first covers the groups: Get, List, Create, Update and Delete for user groups, “to create and manage the user groups in a GMP organization.” The second covers membership, “to add, update and remove the users and user groups that belong to a user group, including each member’s owner or member role.” The third, for admin access bindings, grants organization roles, “such as the organization admin, user admin and billing admin roles, to a user or a user group.”
The API remains in alpha, which Google’s pages call “an unstable early preview.” The changelog lists get, list, create and update methods for admin access bindings, and no delete method.
Why it matters
Group-based methods let an agency or a large advertiser tie access to a group and change membership once, instead of editing each person. For teams that onboard and offboard analysts, media buyers and contractors on a schedule, that shrinks the number of places an access change has to be made and checked.
Our read
The useful question is who can call these methods. Role bindings include the billing admin role, so a script with write access to access bindings can change who holds it. A team that tries the alpha should start in a test organization and log every call. Access settings also decide which data reaches a report, a point that connects to Measurement Disputes Are Moving From the Number to the Definition.
