Chord, a data platform for commerce brands, announced on November 3 that it has acquired Zenlytic, an AI-powered business intelligence platform, and says the deal doubles its revenue.

What happened

In a release on PR Newswire, Chord said Zenlytic’s technology and key team members join Chord, and that Zenlytic’s customers include Verizon, J.Crew, Domino’s and Stanley Black & Decker. The release gives no price and no headcount. Chord describes the purchase as an expansion beyond commerce brands into enterprise businesses, where it says giving agents access to data is easier than making sure they understand the business.

Bryan Mahoney, Chord’s co-founder and CEO, said, “Companies shouldn’t have to hand over control of their most valuable business context to benefit from AI.” Ryan Janssen, CEO of Zenlytic, said the deal lets Chord combine “our analytics engine with their data infrastructure and activation capabilities.”

Why it matters for marketers

Chord says it keeps definitions, metrics and financial goals current as they change, applies existing permissions and gives companies visibility into the answers their agents produce. Its platform pairs data ingestion and AI-powered analytics with activation, so the product that answers a question can also act on the answer.

Oversight is a theme across agent software this week. Salesforce recently added hard spend limits and a kill switch to Agent Fabric and signed a deal to acquire Cresta for its voice agents.

One thing to check

In our reading, the useful test for any analytics agent is where its definition of a customer, a conversion or a qualified lead is written down, and whether your team can read and change it. The release says Chord maintains that business context. It does not say how a customer edits the context or sees what changed in it, and that is the question to put to the vendor before the agent’s answers reach a budget meeting.
