Salesforce said on September 29 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Listen Labs, an AI customer research and human simulation platform. The company said the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2027, subject to customary closing conditions including required regulatory clearance.

Salesforce describes Listen Labs as a platform whose AI agents design studies, recruit participants, conduct in-depth interviews and synthesize findings. It cites a network of more than 50 million participants and interviews in more than 120 languages. Listen Labs also builds digital twins, which Salesforce describes as AI simulations grounded in real customer behavior that generate simulated responses so teams can compare approaches before further testing. Salesforce says the acquisition complements Marketing Cloud, Service Cloud and its broader AI portfolio.

Why it matters

Marketing teams draw on behavioral data in the CRM and CDP, and on research that usually arrives weeks after the question. Salesforce is positioning Listen Labs to move research closer to the data and to supply what it calls context for agents. The company says Listen Labs shortens research from months to days.

That fits a direction we have covered. Platforms are pulling more of the marketing workflow into one layer, as in Marketing Automation Is Merging Into One Shared Layer, while teams are still working out who checks what the agents conclude, as in GTM Teams Deploy AI Agents Faster Than Governance.

The original insight

The digital twin is the part to test before you rely on it. A simulated response is only as good as the behavior it was built from, and Salesforce’s release gives no accuracy figure for the simulations. Until the deal closes, treat simulated results as a way to narrow options. A simple check is to run one message test twice, once with simulated respondents and once with a small live audience, and compare which variant each one picks. If they disagree on a campaign that matters, the live result decides.
