Google has added a Search Central page for the UGC Fresh Data Program, a dedicated pipeline that lets approved platforms send trending user-generated content and engagement signals straight to Google.
The page arrived in Google’s October 8 documentation update. Google describes the program as a way to help platforms show fresh, high quality and authentic user-generated content across Search features. Google says the pipeline covers trending UGC only and is independent of the Google Indexing API and of traditional crawling. The program does not guarantee content will appear in Search.
Eligibility is narrow. A platform must primarily host UGC, social postings or forum discussions on dedicated pages with stable URLs, rather than on profile or feed pages. It needs a high volume of content and a significant user base. Content must sit on public pages that Googlebot can reach, with no login or paywall, and every item must be attributable to a creator with a public profile. Technically, Google asks for secure OAuth 2.0 API authentication, strictly validated JSON-LD payloads and schema.org markup such as SocialMediaPosting or DiscussionForumPosting with interactionStatistic fields. Platforms must run active moderation with a user reporting mechanism, send content ideally within minutes of creation and update engagement counters within 72 hours.
Why it matters
Most marketing teams do not run a UGC platform and cannot apply. The page matters to teams that own communities, review sites or forums, and to brands whose visibility in Search depends on third-party discussion.
In our reading, a brand that runs a community can use the eligibility list as a checklist even without applying: stable thread URLs, public creator profiles and valid DiscussionForumPosting markup are the items Google asks of program members.
