DoubleVerify announced on October 5 that its attribution measurement now covers ChatGPT Ads, delivered through its DV Rockerbox product. Advertisers can count ChatGPT as one touchpoint in the wider customer journey and see its contribution to outcomes and return on ad spend. The release includes an early result from Weight Watchers: ChatGPT’s attributed cost per acquisition was 15.3% below the company’s benchmark during the measured period. DoubleVerify also said it and OpenAI are developing a brand suitability evaluation pilot that would assess conversational context at scale while protecting user privacy. That pilot is in development, not live.

DoubleVerify CEO Mark Zagorski said that by bringing ChatGPT Ads into its attribution measurement, “marketers can connect engagement on ChatGPT to outcomes and return on ad spend, giving them a clearer view of its role across the customer journey.”

The practical change is where the number lives. A conversational ad placement can now be read inside the same attribution view a team already uses for other paid channels, instead of in a separate platform report. That makes comparison across channels possible, which is the step budget owners need before they move money. As we noted in our piece on AI chat ads inheriting the web’s old tracking fight, measurement for this format has been an open question.

Our read is that the Weight Watchers figure is one advertiser, one period and that advertiser’s own benchmark, so it works as a first data point and a hypothesis to test. Attribution assigns credit among touchpoints; it does not show what would have happened without the ads. A team adding ChatGPT to its mix should pair the Rockerbox view with a holdout test. The suitability pilot matters for a second reason: until it produces a policy, advertisers have no agreed way to say which conversations are acceptable neighbors for a brand. Our analysis of measurement disputes moving from the number to the definition explains why the definition needs to be on the table first.
