What happened
Taboola launched Realize ID on September 22, a unified identity layer for its Realize advertising platform built to stitch fragmented, mostly anonymous open-web signals into a single persistent view of a high-intent prospect. The system combines media consumption signals such as scroll depth, ad interactions including clicks and video views, and buying behaviors like conversions, then uses AI to predict intent before a shopper reaches a retailer’s own site. Taboola said advertisers using it have seen conversion efficiency improve by as much as 2.4x. “Realize ID solves for this, using Taboola’s unique data advantage, helping performance marketers capture and act on open web intent before it disappears,” said Adam Singolda, CEO at Taboola.
Why it matters
Identity resolution on the open web, outside the walled gardens of Google, Meta and Amazon, has stayed stubbornly hard even as cookieless targeting has moved from a future problem to a present one. Taboola’s pitch is that its closed loop across more than 600 million daily active users, spanning both publishers and advertisers, gives it a first-party data advantage a standalone identity vendor cannot replicate. Judit Miranda, head of digital marketing at El Corte Inglés, said “Their intent-driven technology helps us deliver more relevant advertising,” while Giacomo Giuriani, business director at agency Forward, said “we’re able to capture users’ real intent wherever they move across the open web, with precision and efficiency.”
The original insight
Realize ID is a bet that the next stage of the cookieless transition rewards scale of first-party signal over cleverness of modeling, the same structural argument behind the industry’s broader scramble for a durable cross-site signal to replace the cookie. It also raises the same durability question raised when marketers were warned that swapping the data platform underneath an identity strategy carries real switching risk: building campaign logic on Realize ID means betting on one vendor’s version of who a shopper is.
