Covatic has launched Smart Campaigns, an optimization engine that lets publishers adjust ad targeting in real time based on how a campaign is actually performing, rather than locking in audience segments at launch and living with whatever underperforms until the flight ends. Deployments running from April through July 2026 produced conversion-rate gains Covatic says ranged from 6% in charity campaigns up to 60% in retail, with B2B at 59% and auto at 23%.
“Advertising is ultimately about outcomes. Covatic Smart Campaigns is built to deliver them,” said Daniel Pike, Chief Product Officer at Covatic.
Why it matters: the standard programmatic workflow still treats targeting as a decision made once, at setup, even though platforms have had the data to correct course mid-flight for years. That gap between available data and static execution is where wasted spend accumulates, and it disproportionately hits publishers who cannot easily prove campaign value to advertisers weighing whether to renew. A tool that reallocates targeting against outcomes rather than pre-set assumptions changes that conversation from “trust our forecast” to “look at what actually converted this week.”
The original insight is in the sector spread: retail’s 60% uplift dwarfs charity’s 6%, which suggests real-time optimization delivers the most value in categories with fast, high-volume conversion signals to learn from, and comparatively little where conversions are rare or slow to register. Publishers pitching Smart Campaigns, or tools like it, to advertisers should expect the pitch to land very differently depending on the vertical, the same unevenness already showing up as ad platforms shift from dashboards toward analysis. It also reinforces a pattern MarTech Edition has tracked all year: ad decisioning keeps migrating toward the supply side, and real-time targeting correction is the latest capability publishers are absorbing rather than ceding to the buy side.
